1) the way i define ownership of the medical record is if you have an x-ray from a patient, you must keep it safe and away from any possibility of patients or unaurthorized personnel getting a hold of it. If the record leaves the the office, there is a chance that it might be stolen which is a big violation of HIPPA. If the patient wants to look at their chart, they can not be left alone with it.
2) Maintaining confidentiality of the patient records is making sure you can keep the records secure and safe at all times. Example: When you are finishing up with checking in a patient at the front desk, you get distracted by a doctor or another nurse, and you have to leave the counter for a few minutes. This is a sure way of violating confidential records, anyone who walks up to the counter and sees that nobody is looking and open the chart and get everything they need on that patient. Always take the chart with you and never leave the patients charts unattended.

Maintain confidentiality of a medical record don't leave the record laying around for just anyone to look at it. The record needs to be in a locked file.

Ownership of the medical records is when a organization or providers collect and maintain medical records that were made in treating a patient. A medical assistant can maintain confidentiality by keeping records in a safe place, make sure they put the records back after you are done looking at them, and never leave medical records unattended. An example would be if a doctor is seeing a patient and is using a computer to put information into a patients file before they check out and accidentally leaves their information up on the computer and another patient comes in an is assigned to that room. They will be able to see all the other patients information on the computer as well as anyone else that may come in the room before the doctor realized what they have done.

I agree with you, being careless of someones medical records can cause many problems and it may be difficult for a patient to trust that facility again. How often do you feel a healthcare facility should go over confidentiality and the HIPPA laws?

I totally agree with you cierra, no one should ever leave a room or leave them laying around for anybody to come up for anybody to grad them without you know it. we should treat medical records like our children. you wouldn't leave children alone by themselves so don't do the patients records alone either.

1-I can define ownership of medical record as certify the patient that the record are safe and guarantee that there will be no illegitimate person that can see it 2-maintaining confidentiality of a patient medical record is making sure that the record are in a lock place and not letting just anyone that are unauthorized so see it

1)Ownership of a medical record is storing a patient's medical record in a place where no one else has acess to it except the Medical Assistant , the Dr , and the patient if they request for their medical records at the practice . The records should only be seen by the patient or the Dr if seen by anyone else it is a HIPPA viloation . 2)How to keep the patient's medical record safe is by closing it out if you step away from the computer or putting it directly back on the self is something is added to the patient's record so no one else can have acess to the record .
